Flying from Portland to Atlanta after a mega family visit. I have a burrito from Tamale Boy and I need to write a short essay about leadership for our organization’s newsletter. Any questions?

Train A, traveling 70 miles per hour (mph), leaves Westford heading toward Eastford, 260 miles away. At the same time Train B, traveling 60 mph, leaves Eastford heading toward Westford. When do the two trains meet? How far from each city do they meet?

Why leadership? Why not leaderjet? Ships are lazy and slow

Is the mark of a good leader someone who eats a burrito from Tamale Boy shortly before boarding a 4 hour plane flight, particularly when you can’t use the lavs for the last 30 minutes of the flight and then after landing you still have another 15-20 minutes (at minimum) of taxiing and deplaning before you can find a restroom?

You are asking the important questions.

737-900ER, escape row middle. More legroom, but still middle. Didn’t use my high power passes for this one. Tail number 3856.

Not bad, all things considered - I like the newer 737's, and exit row is always good. As long as the people around you are considerate, the middle works. Presume you’re over the wing, then - -the 900ER is about a mile long. How’s the burrito holding out? :)

Pretty good. I liked the napkin they gave us. “Ideas are best pursued with 280,000 horsepower engines.

Is that from Delta or Tamale Boy? Either way, I like it-

In my experience, at least ATL restrooms are pretty clean. Good luck!

I have some non-sarcastic suggestions for your leadership essay:
What do we want and support in great leaders? Usually the answer is soft skills, emotional intelligence, charisma, and willingness to listen to subordinates.
Now consider the advice that women on leadership trajectories usually receive. They’re told to be cold, ruthless, unfeeling, to “act like a man,” even though the most admired and successful male leaders don’t “act like a man” in the same way. And this advice isn’t wrong. Women don’t have the same success when they have the attributes I described that we want in great leaders.
Any organization that can succeed in closing this gap, in rewarding women who act as great leaders, not just those who “act like men,” will find success.

Yeah - why are the windows on the DC-8 spaced so far apart? I used to fly on UA birds LAX-HNL all the time and invariably my seat would be positioned in such a way that I didn’t get a window even though I was either in seat A or F. What’s up with that?

That is a great suggestion. I hired in a woman manager and have friends who are female in our leadership ranks. Working with them and hearing their perspective is eye opening and cringeworthy at times. We are in an interesting time where the old guard is moving on and we are moving to something new. How females ar perceived in a traditionally male dominated business like ours is a challenge. If they are soft then they are not taken seriously. If they are aggressive and determined people call them bitches. My mom, wife and sister are all strong people and I want a world where they are appreciated for their talents
I was going to write about how the small things matter. I Tend to get tagged as one of the leaders who is stronger with the soft skills than most folks in engineering and people ask what I do. It’s not one big thing, but a lot of little things.
Now I need to ponder...
